Our fishing store carries crankbaits and fishing lures for sale.

Big Muskie the other Day in Lake St. Clair

Yeah, we pulled some giant Pike out of Lake St. Clair the other day, but we also pulled some nice size Muskie out of the lake as well. These fish not only get big, they get huge! Down below are some pictures of some young muskellunge, even though these muskie were young they still pulled like a freight train. These fish get three to four times the size of these pictures though. I haven't caught one that big yet, but I know they are lurking around the lake and I think I might be able to hook one this year. Man it would be so nice to hook a record muskie, I would be just so joyful!

Huge Pike in Lake St. Clair

One main species Lake St. Clair is known for is smallmouth bass, but another great species Lake St. Clair you should try fishing for is northern pike. Check out this monster I caught today, the fish is just huge. I don't want to divulge my special spot where I've been catching these huge pike, but I will tell you the awesome lure I have been using. I've been using a 4" Berkley Powerbait Grub, it's just awesome for these big fish, they just snatch it right up from the bottom. They just hit it so hard man!

I lost two other today, one snapped the line completely and another came loose. It makes me wonder how big these fish were. Another fisherman next to us was using crankbaits, he was catching some good size smallmouth bass, but he didn't hook any big pike.

The pike in the picture weighed 10 pounds and 8 ounces, it's definitely the biggest pike I have ever caught. The stomach on this baby was just huge, I think it was a female and was filled with eggs. I just can't wait to get back on the water, but it's going to be awhile because I have to take my boat in to fix a leak.

Lures I bought at Lakeside Fishing Shop

Well since I got sick on the boat the other day, I haven't been feeling that good lately. Can't go fishing on the boat because I still feel a little dizzy, the best thing to do now is wait it off. So I decided to go up to Lakeside Fishing Shop in St. Clair Shores, thought it was a good time to buy some fireline for the Detroit River and some crankbaits for the summer. Plus I've been running low on jig heads and Berkley Powerbait so I bought some of that stuff too.

I went with a 1/2 ounce jig head and the motor oil colored Berkley Powerbait. They were real close to the pumpkinseed 4" grub I've been using the last week or so. Thought this would be great for later in the summer. Kind of pissed my 4" green pumpkin grub has arrived yet from Bass Pro, but I guess it works out because I can't go on the boat right now.

The crankbait colors I bought look pretty cool, I went with a crawdad color Bomber crankbait and a shad color Bomber crankbait. The crawdad swims 4-6 feet deep and the shad 6-8 feet deep. Perfect for Lake St. Clair since it's real shallow in the lake.

Sunstroke Yesterday while Fishing

Wow, never thought this would happen to me. The other day my brother and I went fishing on Lake St. Clair, it was pretty calm out and it was around 70 degrees. Before we went out, I got a little bundled up, I thought it was going to be a little chilly out on the lake, well I was totally wrong. I had to take my coat off and my second set of jogging pants I was wearing. Well about an hour in, I picked up six smallmouth bass and my brother got like ten. The fish were really hitting hard!

Well all of a sudden the sun came out of the clouds and hit me right in my face. Man it made me completely light headed and dizzy, I knew I had to sit down. Well right after than I almost started puking. I felt sea sick, it's weird thought because it was totally calm out. But then I put two and two together, it was obvious I got sun stroke. I did leave my winter hat on to cover my ears and head, I got viciously burned on top of my scalp last time I went fishing.

It totally sucked, for the next hour or so I was on the bottom of the boat dizzy as hell. It was the worst feeling I have ever felt in a long time. It was so bad I felt dizzy the next day to, still feel a little dizzy as I type this right now. So this is a warning to all you fisherman, make sure you don't go out in front of the sun when you're sun burnt, wearing a warm hat, and without sunscreen. I didn't think this could happen to me, but it did!

Here's a little write up I found on the internet about sunstroke: Sunstroke is a life-threatening condition in which the body's heat-regulating system fails, due to exposure to high temperatures. Sunstroke can occur when the body's mechanisms to rid itself of excess heat are overwhelmed by a very hot or humid environment, or strenuous physical activity. Symptoms of sunstroke include elevated body temperature; hot, dry skin; hyperventilation; mental confusion; and eventual unconsciousness.

You wouldn't think it could happen in 70 degree weather, but when you're sun burnt and wearing hot clothes it's definitely possible. Take it from me!

I still got a few pictures of the smallmouth bass we caught. My brother also had a big sheephead fish on too, man those fish are ugly. Later that day before we docked the bought, he had a pretty decent sized fish that came off, might of been a pike, but it never surfaced and my brother never got a glimpse of it.

Edsel Eleanor Ford House Grosse Pointe

My girlfriend got a few decent pictures of the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores. It's said the house is haunted, from the looks of it I bet it is. A friend of a friend who works security there said they've had some odd experiences in the spooky house. If you check out these shots from the water, you'll know why I call the house spooky. It's still a beautiful home though and a great piece of American history.

Great Fishing Day on Lake St. Clair: 30 Fish

Where do I start, this was such a great day of fishing. We caught so many fish I ran out of Berkley Powerbait Grub, I'm glad I ordered some up from Bass Pro Shops, I totally ran out of the 4" size grub. These fish just chewed it up man!

My girlfriend planned this day of fishing a week ahead of time, she really wanted to go out on Monday because it's her day of and the weather forecast was showing low wind and warm weather. Soon as I woke up yesterday I knew it was going to be a good day, I felt good, full of energy, and there was a really bright sun outside.

First thing, we hooked up the trailer and set out for Lake St. Clair. We launched the boat around 11am and got to Jefferson Beach point around 11:10am. We weren't getting anything so we headed over to the nine mile pier, immediately boom, we got our first smallmouth. Reeled it in and it was of decent size. We ended up catching like seven smallmouth bass in that area then they turned off. I thought it was kind of funny because usually these spots are hot throughout the whole day.

So I decided to give the Grosse Pointe Shore pier a try, I thought it would be too early to try this far out in the lake, but boy was I wrong. First fish we caught was a Muskie, my girlfriend actually caught it, I couldn't believe it. I've been fishing for 20+ years now and still haven't caught one, I'm so jealous! On the flip side of that though I'm so happy for my girlfriend, she seemed so flabbergasted. This was like her fourth time fishing with me and she's already caught a Muskie, she's my good luck charm, she's definitely coming out with me more often that's for sure.

After she caught that young size Muskie(see the pictures down below), we started hitting the smallmouth bass left and right. They were practically jumping out of the boat. I went through three Berkley Powerbait soft plastic grubs in one spot. 2:30pm came around the corner and we had to hit the road though, we had to go pick up my girlfriend's daughter from school. Right before that, I ended up hooking a good size pike, it had a lamprey attached to it's side. It fell of when we got the Pike out of the water, if it hadn't I would of got a picture of it and killed it. My girlfriend hates these things, says they look hideous, I think she's right! When we started to head home, we definitely agreed we should come back after we are done picking up our daughter.

So we did, ended up getting back to the Shore pier around 6pm or so. First cast was the biggest smallmouth bass of the day, and guess what? My girlfriend caught this one as well, it ended up weighing 3 pounds and 9 ounces. All in all, a pretty decent size smallmouth bass. After that though, the spot was dead. We got bored so we headed over towards 12 mile in the St. Clair Shores area. My brother heard from other anglers they were knocking them dead. That's definitely true because we ended up catching a ton of smallies. We caught around ten smallmouth bass.

All together yesterday my girlfriend and I ended up catching 30 or so fish. It was a ton of fun and we enjoyed it very. It's just too bad we didn't catch any walleye, that's what I really went out there for. We were trying to pinpoint some Walleye, but no cigar, still happy though with our fishing trip. Maybe next time!

Here's my girlfriend's beautiful smallmouth bass she caught, ended up weighing 3 pounds and 9 ounces, definitely a biggin'.

This is a picture of the young Muskie my girlfriend caught, I just love the way Muskie look, very silverfish and neat spots all over them. Such a beautiful fish!

This was the 2:30 northern pike I caught, she definitely fought quite well.

This was a great shot of me and a smallmouth bass I caught, it's almost the perfect picture. I'm holding the bass just right, but I'm looking down at it.

Here's some more shots we got of the day, fish everywhere I say!

Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills

Well I decided to hit up the Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills yesterday. I actually forgot the fishing store was in Great Lakes Crossing Mall. It was a beautiful sight to see, I haven't been there since I was a youngster. I went the first year they opened, I don't remember the store being so big, it was amazing! My girlfriend also tagged along too, she thought the whole outdoors theme for the store was very cool. She exclaimed she saw nothing like it.

Then my girlfriend came across the beautiful ducks in the pond area with the water mill, she thought it was so cute. After that we of course headed over to the huge aquarium in Bass Pro Shops. This is the main part of the store I'm always excited to see. We were both amazed when we saw the huge Muskie chilling in the background, that bad boy looked mean as hell. It looked a good 20 pounds or more. Then we saw one largemouth bass that looked like it weighed 8 pounds, the fish was a monster. Also great to see were the big bluegill and crappie, they had a decent size catfish in the Bass Pro Shops aquarium too.

Eventually I came to it and started looking for the lure came for. It was the 4" Berkley Powerbait Green Pumpkin Grub. I started looking in the soft bait section, couldn't find it so I asked a Bass Pro Shops sales men. He then directed to me a section on the other side of the store, I'm like "you have more fishing lures over there," I was completely amazed. Come to find out though they didn't have the color I was looking for, I was a little mad, but even though they didn't have my grub color I did find a few great looking Bomber crankbaits. So I bought those and when I got home I ordered up the Berkley Powerbait Grub color off their online store. The best thing to do is call a fishing store before you go there, because you never know if they have your color or not. Since I thought Bass Pro Shops was so big I thought they would have a common color such as green pumpkin. I would of went either way though, I wanted to see the aquarium and other lures they had in stock. Plus my girlfriend never been there before.

All in all I'm very impressed with the Bass Pro Shops store in Auburn Hills. Johnny Morris must be very proud of his four star fishing shop!

Beautiful Pictures of the Detroit River

Check out these beautiful pictures of the Detroit River. The first one is of a beautiful big Sturgeon fish, these fish date back all the way to the prehistoric age.

A picture of the Detroit River right before night time. Fisherman are casting for walleye, I hope they catch a few!

The grass line near the Detroit River, this is a good sign of growth.

A beautiful Bald Eagle is soaring in the sky with seagulls, such a sight to see! Their wingspan can be up to 6 feet long!

Mayflies are extremely sensitive to pollution, but they're among species rebounding on the Detroit River.

Sturgeon Abundant in the Detroit River

One fish that scientists say may be extinct after 200 million years is the Sturgeon. Yes the fish dates that old, fossils record Sturgeon approximately 200 million years ago, amazing isn't it? Scientists exclaim it's due to pollution and dams. But some signs of life are starting to form in the Detroit River. Fisherman are starting to hook more and the DNR say they may be spawning. I just hope this is true because they are truly a very beautiful fish, the unique bony texture and look of the fish reminds me of a Dinosaur. This may be the only species living in Michigan that dates back to the prehistoric age, I would hate to see the fish die off!

Pollution in the Detroit River

Don't be fooled by the title, pollution has remarkably decreased in the Detroit River. That's the latest news that has been reported by the Detroit Press. Jim Lynch of Detroit News talks in an article the other day that bald eagles to lake sturgeon are more fluent through the body of water. Other fish known as walleye and and whitefish are more fluent throughout the river too. Spring fisherman are jumping for joy as they catch one walleye after the other in this fishing bananza. If you're looking to do some fishing this spring, definitely check out the Detroit River.

Along with fish, bird species are making a comeback as well. Pesticide use, particularly DDT and its derivatives hurt the birds' ability to reproduce and its numbers dwindled. Michigan banned the use of DDT in 1969 and the rest of the nation followed three years later. Ever since then the bird population have been increasing, "it's truly an exciting thing to see" bird watchers say.

Even though scientists say the fish and birds are making a comeback, there are other things to worry about rather than pollution. The asian carp is the main thing I worry about, if they reach the Detroit River, man it's going to be all over. I just hope the wallye, sturgeon, and muskie numbers can stay up. I hate to see these fish take over the Detroit River after these fish have made comeback. The only thing we can do is hope!
