Fishing on Lake Erie for some Jumbo Perch
One of the species of fish Lake Erie is know for is jumbo perch. As you might notice from the video the fisherman are just in a simple jon boat and they take it out on a very calm day. They go in around 50 feet of water and hall in one jumbo perch after another. It's amazing, they supposedly caught more bass than perch that day, the struggled to put 18 jumbo perch in the cooler. Larter in the video they show you how to fillet the jumbo perch, I bet that makes for quite a tasty meal. Man I would love to get out on Lake Erie and fish it everyday. Looks like Lake Erie is just loaded with bass too!
Berkley PowerBait Shaky Worms
One of the best soft baits around is the the Berkley Powerbait Shaky Worm. Just like the title say it shakes and gives out a motion like a real worm would. It's due to it's bulbous tail, it floats to the top giving the worm an incredibly enticing action for big bass. The bait is ideal for jig heads or a Carolina rig, the Berkley Powerbait Shaky Worm will be able to catch smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pike, walleye, and occasionally a nice size catfish.
Bass Pro Shop Auburn Hills Michigan
I've been think about hitting up the Bass Pro Shop in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Last time I was over there I was a really young and at the time they just put up shop. Since then they probably got a lot of nice fishing equipment in. I for one would love to check out there huge aquarium, it would be pretty cool seeing the bass, walleye, and pike in the aquarium. Plus, I think my girlfriend would enjoy seeing the fish too. I know I've been talking about getting a fish finder, this will probably give me a chance to try out some of the fish finders Bass Pro has in stock. Some look very crappy while other look pretty high tech and cool. You really never know until you go in the store and check them out. I'm also going to check out some of their fishing poles and reels, I need a new rod. I currently am using an old Fireline rod and it's too stiff for the kind of fishing I'm doing. I'll probably end up buying a fiber glass rod with a medium soft action to it, perfect for jigging while still being able to fish a crankbait with ease. Gonna have to plan a date.
Water Finally Freeze over in Michigan?
It's February 2nd, I think the water has finally frozen over rock sold in Michigan. I've been waiting to get out and do some ice fishing, but the weather has been so mixed up lately I really didn't want to take a risk. Last past week it's been pretty cold, I turned the heater up at the house. I think I might have to try some ice fishing at Kent Lake, believe or not Lake St. Clair still is frozen good enough yet. It kind of sucks because Lake St. Clair is one of the best lakes to ice fish at. Since Kent Lake is a lot calmer, the water tends to freeze over better than Lake St. Clair. So maybe this weekend I'll get out there, I'll have to ask my pops if he want to go ice fishing at Kent Lake. I bet there's some perch in there, when I was fishing in the summer time I saw the occasional perch come up to my lure. I'll definitely gets some pictures of the fish we catch if we go ice fishing, it would finally be nice to get out of the house.

Commercial Ban on Walleye Fishing in Saginaw Bay
Pinconning commerical fisherman Dana Serafin is suing the state for the right to catch walleye in Saginaw Bay. This is something the DNR hasn't allowed for decades, it's mainly to protect the walleye fish. Walleye Charter Owner Dan Manyen claims if there is a low allowing commercial fishing in the bay it will break apart his business and overall hurt walleye fishing. I hear him, it's already hard enough keeping up a business in the states. Serafin’s Toledo based attorney Anthony Calamunci says there are enough fish to go around, and walleye are over-protected by the DNR. You know what, what does an attorney know, he should not be making these types of claims, man do I hate lawyers! The lawsuit is currently in the discovery stage, depositions are scheduled next month for the stupid lawsuit. I really hope Serafin doesn't win, I'm a fisherman and the last thing I want to see is commercial fisherman take over fishing. The United States is already a monopoly with all the big business already making a big black hole with not enough money to go around, last thing we need is the same thing with fish. This is the only thing left I have!
Hooked on Adventure Fishing Show
Benicians Richard Brock and Bob Sickles got everything they wanted this Christmas when they landed their new fishing show on national tv, the name of the fishing show is Hooked on Adventure. They have reached an agreement on the Sportsman Channel with a prime time slot. The fishing show will follow five regular guys on a fishing journey off the Florida cost, supposedly it was already filmed on the June of 2007. Future expeditions will be planned if the show is becomes pretty popular among anglers and gets picked up for more seasons. If you're interested you can find the Hooked on Adventure fishing show on Tuesdays at 6 a.m., Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 8 p.m. It's just great to hear more fishing shows being televised, lately it's been hard coming across them on the TV, can't wait to see this one!
Muskie Fishing on Lake St. Clair
One of the best places to fish for Muskie in the southeastern region of Michigan is Lake St. Clair. The Lake is just filled with record size Muskie, I remember when my brother hooked his massive Muskie on our old Starcraft fishing boat. The area he caught the Muskie was around the 9 mile area, about a half a mile from land. The Muskie was no record, but it was definitely of good size and took like 20 minutes to reel in. The great thing about Lake St. Clair is these monster size fish can be caught anywhere in the lake, you don't have to be a professional angler to find them. Try using a bigger crankbait or jig, they're most likely to bite on bigger size bait. So if live in Michigan, you should give Lake St. Clair a try for Muskie fishing, you won't be disappointed.
Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Tournament
Over 11,000 anglers showed up for the Brainerd and Jaycess 20th annual ice fishing tournament on Gull Lake. The results were 843 fish registered at the Extravaganza, the line for the weigh in tent was one hundred yards long. The winning fish was caught within the first few minutes of the contest, the fish was a 6.26 pound walleye, the nice sized walleye was caught by Curtis Yess. Yess is a past President of the Waseca-area Jaycees, he was just so amazed to catch the winning fish of the tournament. Curtis Yess took home a brand new GMC pick-up truck as the 1st place prize. The walleye was caught on a glow hook with a shiner minnow. If you didn't get a chance to compete in this years ice fishing tournament, there's always next year. Brainerd and Jaycess next ice fishing tournament is on January 22, 2011, between 12:00 - 3:00 P.M. on Gull Lake. Hope to see you ice fisherman out next year!
Predator Kayak Fishing Hand Paddle
One of the newest innovations around is the Predator Hand Paddle by Backwater Paddles. It can be used for pushing your kayak around when you're fishing. If you look at the picture you can tell it has a unique design to it, which helps to make your movement stealthy and sneaky when fishing close to fish. It's small and shorter than the larger kayak paddles, which can be clumsy to use when you're fishing. This makes switching between your fishing pole and paddle easy. To purchase Backwater's new Predator Kayak paddle visit their webstore BackWaterPaddles.com.
