Great Fishing Day on Lake St. Clair: 30 Fish

Where do I start, this was such a great day of fishing. We caught so many fish I ran out of Berkley Powerbait Grub, I'm glad I ordered some up from Bass Pro Shops, I totally ran out of the 4" size grub. These fish just chewed it up man!

My girlfriend planned this day of fishing a week ahead of time, she really wanted to go out on Monday because it's her day of and the weather forecast was showing low wind and warm weather. Soon as I woke up yesterday I knew it was going to be a good day, I felt good, full of energy, and there was a really bright sun outside.

First thing, we hooked up the trailer and set out for Lake St. Clair. We launched the boat around 11am and got to Jefferson Beach point around 11:10am. We weren't getting anything so we headed over to the nine mile pier, immediately boom, we got our first smallmouth. Reeled it in and it was of decent size. We ended up catching like seven smallmouth bass in that area then they turned off. I thought it was kind of funny because usually these spots are hot throughout the whole day.

So I decided to give the Grosse Pointe Shore pier a try, I thought it would be too early to try this far out in the lake, but boy was I wrong. First fish we caught was a Muskie, my girlfriend actually caught it, I couldn't believe it. I've been fishing for 20+ years now and still haven't caught one, I'm so jealous! On the flip side of that though I'm so happy for my girlfriend, she seemed so flabbergasted. This was like her fourth time fishing with me and she's already caught a Muskie, she's my good luck charm, she's definitely coming out with me more often that's for sure.

After she caught that young size Muskie(see the pictures down below), we started hitting the smallmouth bass left and right. They were practically jumping out of the boat. I went through three Berkley Powerbait soft plastic grubs in one spot. 2:30pm came around the corner and we had to hit the road though, we had to go pick up my girlfriend's daughter from school. Right before that, I ended up hooking a good size pike, it had a lamprey attached to it's side. It fell of when we got the Pike out of the water, if it hadn't I would of got a picture of it and killed it. My girlfriend hates these things, says they look hideous, I think she's right! When we started to head home, we definitely agreed we should come back after we are done picking up our daughter.

So we did, ended up getting back to the Shore pier around 6pm or so. First cast was the biggest smallmouth bass of the day, and guess what? My girlfriend caught this one as well, it ended up weighing 3 pounds and 9 ounces. All in all, a pretty decent size smallmouth bass. After that though, the spot was dead. We got bored so we headed over towards 12 mile in the St. Clair Shores area. My brother heard from other anglers they were knocking them dead. That's definitely true because we ended up catching a ton of smallies. We caught around ten smallmouth bass.

All together yesterday my girlfriend and I ended up catching 30 or so fish. It was a ton of fun and we enjoyed it very. It's just too bad we didn't catch any walleye, that's what I really went out there for. We were trying to pinpoint some Walleye, but no cigar, still happy though with our fishing trip. Maybe next time!

Here's my girlfriend's beautiful smallmouth bass she caught, ended up weighing 3 pounds and 9 ounces, definitely a biggin'.

This is a picture of the young Muskie my girlfriend caught, I just love the way Muskie look, very silverfish and neat spots all over them. Such a beautiful fish!

This was the 2:30 northern pike I caught, she definitely fought quite well.

This was a great shot of me and a smallmouth bass I caught, it's almost the perfect picture. I'm holding the bass just right, but I'm looking down at it.

Here's some more shots we got of the day, fish everywhere I say!
