Northern Pike Attacks Man: His Hand Bitten
First word that comes to mind is stupidity, what did this guy thing was going to happen after dangling a bluegill in front of a pike. The Pike is going to attack it, see Pike just don't go up and nibble at it. They forcefully attack like a crocodile, looks like the teeth definitely sank in through the rubber glove. I bet he's going to have some scars, he'll definitely think before doing this again. Maybe this was the crocodile hunter? Lol, wait he's dead!
Girl Catches 50 Inch Northern Pike
Check out this sweet fishing video, a girl catches this monster 50 inch Northern Pike. They are fishing out of Northern Saskatchewan lake, Pine Island Resort. At the end it looks as if the Pike snapped the line, she really didn't look like she knew how to reel. The drag was going and she kept on reeling, she must of been using a braided line, because if you were reeling up a monster pike like this on normal monofilament line the line would of broke a long time ago. But hey, she's probably a newbie to fishing so I get her props for just catching the big pike!
Fight Against Carp
More than a dozen members of Congress from the Great Lakes region agreed Wednesday to seek $20 million for developing ways to prevent Asian carp from becoming established in the lakes and jeopardizing the fishing industry by starving out competitors such as salmon and walleye.
Senator Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat who hosted a strategy session in Washington, D.C., said the lawmakers remained divided over whether to close Chicago shipping locks and gates that could be doorways to Lake Michigan for the carp.
Michigan and four other states are pressing a lawsuit demanding closure of the locks, though the U.S. Supreme Court last week rejected their request for an immediate order. Illinois and the Obama administration say there's no guarantee closing the locks would block the carp, but it definitely would disrupt shipping and promote flooding.
Fatal Fish Virus in Great Lakes
I guess it wasn't enough we had pollution in the Great Lakes, now there's a big fatal fish virus going around. The virus is very scary and it has spread to all the Great Lakes. It's called VHS, viral hemorrhagic septicemia, so far it has infected 28 freshwater fish species. What's bad about VHS is it causes bleeding, bloated abdomens, and bulging eyes which leads to the dieing of the fish. Scientists say it's not dangerous to humans I think otherwise. Viruses adapt and mutate, so something like this is very scary. The virus has cause huge fish kills in Lake Ontario, Erie, and the Huron. So far DNR have not found a cure for VHS, these still don't know of it's origin either.
Asian Carp may not be a Threat to Great Lakes
I just got done reading an article in the newspaper that implies Asian carp may not be a threat to the Great Lakes. While I'm kind of optimistic, this may be true and the Asian Carp may not ruin the lake. I'm going to list some they made.
- It's the numbers that invade the lakes that will ultimately determine whether they have a chance to get established.
- Lake Michigan may be too cold for Asian carp to live in and reproduce. Lake Erie on the other hand is warmer and might be a lot better.
- Food Source in lakes is low for these fish.
- Asian carp need long rivers to spawn in, many rivers around the great lakes are too short to satisfy their need.
What these scientists who made these pointers tend to forget, animals adapt to their surroundings. If this is a freshwater fish, they are going to come into these lakes no matter what. I don't believe the cold theory or that there's not enough food for the Asian carp. There's plenty of stuff for the Carp to eat.
I guess it's only a matter of time before we find out if the Carp will make a home in the Great Lakes. I just hope they don't because one of the lakes I fish is connected to Lake St. Clair. If the Great Lakes become filled with them, so will Lake St. Clair.
Smallmouth Bass Fishing in Minnesota
These two youngsters do some smallmouth bass fishing on St. Louis River with a pontoon boat. The time of year is during the Fall season and they are using flies. I never knew you could catch smallmouth bass on top water, since they are deep fish, it's surprises they are catching off top water. I guess it really depends on the lake and location. Because I know back here at Lake St. Clair, you can only catch smallmouth bass on crankbaits and jigs. Well maybe I'll give it a try this spring!
Rig a Rubber Shad for Striped Bass
In this small video a professional fisherman shows you how to rig a rubber shad for striped bass fishing. This bait is very successful to use on stripe bass, as you can see in the video the bait has a lot of action. It wiggles just like a worm or a wounded fish in the water, the striped bass can't resist it. I would choose this body style in a Berkley Powerbait bait since they have the best scent.
Giant 600 Pound Goliath Bass
Do you guys think this is a setup and a fake video or what? Supposedly this fisherman catches a 600 pound Goliath bass and it breaks his fishing pole. I think it's a total hoax, because the Goliath bass is never held up and shown in front of the video camera. I think it's a fake! Plus if this was a new world record, we would of definitely saw this on the news or in a fishing magazine.
Peacock Bass Fishing
This is an awesome video of Steve Townson, "The Fish Finder," taking you on an expedition of catching big peacock bass on the Amazon river. It's a very extravagant video to watch, this guy is very adventurous, he takes fishing to new heights. I never caught a Peacock bass before, but from the looks of it they are very good fighting fish. I hear they are a really good fish to eat as well!
